Notes

Brent came and approved our general chassis design. We also modified our wheel mounting scheme. We will be putting in the shaft from the outside through a hole in the side plate, skewering each component on the axle as it is inserted one at a time. We will eeither sandwich the bearing on the outside of the sheet metal plate, or we can still do it on the inside and rely on a shaft collar to hold the shaft in place. If we sandwich on the outside, we encounter a problem with the bumpers, namely that they need to be supported on a flat surface. Some solution will need to be found if we go with this method. We will need to include a belt tensioner for each belt, because belt will strech permanently after wear. We will drill several holes on the side plate and inner plate and hold a horizontal bar with some kind of rotating surface to contact the belt. This will be tapped on each end so that it can be bolted in from the sides and the builder will be able to select a hole to use for different amounts of tension. We have discarded the idea of flat belt and alligator belt lacing and we will be using timing belt instead. We decided that we want to build the 8- wheel tank drive, but we will make our design adaptable to the 6 wheel tank as well.
