Work Completed

numbers correspond to problems below:

  1. check the CAD and use common sense for rivet lengths
  2. when inserting bearings, make sure flange is facing the right way (they are all good now, after assembly)
  3. structural support may include a wood block with a hole drilled out to fit around the diameter of the bearing (just note for good technique)
  4. use the right drill bits and check CAD for bolt size
  5. dremel the hole where the spacer goes
    • dremel hole spacer should be 1/8, not 1/4 like in the CAD
  6. gears: (in sequence to deliver motion from motor to shaft)
    • 'motor': 24 teeth on gear
    • 'free': 34 teeth on gear
    • 'shaft': 44 teeth on gear
  7. 3-D printed

Challenges

Numbers correspond to challenges or things that could be wrong

  1. rivets may be too long or too short
  2. bearings may be inserted the wrong direction which causes problems later on when shafts need to be put through bearings

climber:

      3. When press fitting, make sure there is structural support behind the metal so it doesn't bend

    motor mounting:

      4. holes to mount the motor must be drilled out to fit the bolt size

    circular holes:

      5. some holes are too small so spacers do not fit correctly

    gear shafts:

      6. certain gear ratios need to produce enough torque to pull the robot up

    hubs:

     7. need hubs

Work for Next Meeting

1. be sure to inspect robot so no rivets are poking out or too short and not strong enough to hold parts together
