Work Completed

• We created a list of 4 designs (4 Prongs w/ Pistons, 4 Prongs w/ Motors, Velcro & Pistons, Grappling Hook Design).
For each design, we wrote a decription, a list of pros, and a list of cons, as well as sketches for each design.
• Additional designs were discussed, including the grappling hook pvc pipe alternative and the cone design.
• We presented our current ideas and designs to the team at the team meeting.
• We tested the current prototype, of the 4 prongs w/ pistons, one additional time and estimated the weight (1 lb min, 1.5 lb max).
• Discussed possible methods of putting a hatch on, as setting it higher or lower would give us more space on the sides (option of using climber to lift robot out was ruled out due to time ineffeciency and energy usage).
• Created a list of design parameters

  • We learned that the pool noodles were not an acceptable replacement for the rubber stoppers that we wanted
  • Next meeting we should figure out a suitable replacement (golf paddle mechanism from poly which will make it more compact and angled
  • In addition the Ri3D video in the group chat about the lexan grabber should be considered

Challenges

Main Challenge: None of our current designs (except maybe the grappling hook) allow for to hatch panel to be set from an angle without the drivers having to reposition the entire robot (which is not ideal). For horizontal positioning, we will work to add a horizontal slider behind the mechanism to reposition the hatch on a horizontal axis.

• Pneumatic leaks when testing current prototype.
• Not enough time to test on Atla-Z, design a horizontal slider prototype, or start other prototypes.

Work for Next Meeting

Jobs for Prototype #1

Need to attach on Atla-Z

Might want to 3D print the parts instead of using the bolts and add some more reinforcement/cushion to the bolts

Other Tasks

Complete adding designs to the list of designs, including all designs mentioned or talked about on Slack or ones we may have not considered fully yet. After doing so, add pros and cons for each, a sketch, and rank the designs once all are on the list.

Build the practice hatch if it is routed

Finalize the sketch for prototype 1

Record and discuss pros and cons and modify prototype based on testing data (We have pros & cons but now we need to record data for tests for multiple prototypes that we have considered to be our best designs).

If done with the first prototype, sort and rank the remaining designs, and create prototypes for the best.

Test how much wiggle room we have with the velcro and if we will need a sideways elevator mechanism to align better (Which is most likely at this point).

Create a mechanism that is able to set the hatch panel from an angle (individually controlled pistons behind horizontal elevator?)

On Schedule?

Yes
