The backplate for the drivetrain frame was CADed completely. Holes for the sideplate of the drivetrain was also added. After talking with Chris via Slack, we decided to cut off .75 inches from both sides of the blackplate in order to get the wheels closer to the bumpers. The reasoning for this was that if the wheels were closer to the bumpers, the bumper has less of a chance of hitting the ground because the angle from the wheel to the bumper is steeper. Cutting down the length of the backplate would get the wheel closer, accomplishing this.
At first last year's files were copied to make the backplate, but when we tried to adjust dimensions, multiple errors appeared due to cuts already made based on parts we deleted. We decided that it was better to make our own from scratch instead of copying another file and that went much smoother. We also had trouble deciding how much we should chop off of each end of the backplate. Too little would not make much of a difference in the bumper hitting first, but too much would cause an unstable drivetrain. We decided to go with .75 inches based on this reasoning and Chris's suggestions.
Next meeting, we plan to first check in with other subteams to see if their design ideas changed and update them on our design plan for the drivetrain. This way we can both adapt our designs to what each other's needs. We should also start working on a baseplate for the drivetrain and possibly the gearboxes. We can also discuss with Chris what our next steps should be.
